Opis:

Američki kratki crno-bijeli nijemi film snimljen 1909. u režiji D. W. Griffitha. Predstavlja ekranizaciju romana The Pit američkog književnika Franka Norrisa, originalno objavljenog nekoliko godina ranije. Radnja prikazuje kako bogati tajkun svojim manipulacijama i mešetarenjem na burzi nastoji zaokružiti (opkoliti) tržište pšenicom, a što za posljedicu ima nagli porast cijena kruha i sveopće siromaštvo. Za ovaj film je karakteristično Griffithovo korištenje brze montaže kako bi se što više istakao kontrast između siromaha koji ne mogu kupiti kruh te bogataša koji uživaju u luksuznim zabavama. Te će tehnike kasnije postati zaštitni znak politički angažiranim ostvarenjima rane sovjetske kinematografije. [wiki]
