Priča o željezničaru Andrei Marocciu koji 30 godina radi sa prijateljem Gigijem.
Zadovoljan je svojim poslom, a slobodno vreme provodi u željezničarskoj kafani uz piće.
Ima ženu Saru i sina Sandra sa kojim je blizak. Sa starijim nezaposlenim sinom Marcellom ima problema.
Kćerka Giulia je trudna i prisiljava je na brak sa Renatom, momkom kojega ona ne voli.
Kad mu se samoubica baci pod voz, to ga silno potrese i zamalo izazove sudar vozova.
Gubi posao, a i situacija kod kuće se pogoršava.... Nagrade i nominacije.
