Bogati, despotski industrijalac Rambal-Cochet, vlasnik prodavaonice igračaka dovede svog sina Erica u trgovinu da si izabere šta god poželi. Eric odabere Françoisa Perrina, novinara koji je na obilasku trgovine zbog svog članka. Pošto je Rambal-Cochet i vlasnik novina, Françoisa nastavi sa ovom maskeradom.
Američki režiser Richard Donner je 1982 napravio istoimeni remake ovog francuskog filma sa Richard Pryorom u glavnoj ulozi.
